TALENT DEVELOPMENT: SHARPEN YOUR POINTS

StrengthsFinder Discovery: As I have been conducting presentations at businesses, in networking groups, or meeting with individuals one-on-one, I am slowly discovering that a few people in my local community have taken StrengthsFinder at some point and typically with a company that they previously worked at. Of course, I get excited because I know that the person I am conversing with has learned a bit of strengths language. This sparks an immediate connection, and I want to learn more. My natural curiosity is to ask the person first to “name” their top 5 Talent Themes. Then, my second question, “Where you surprised by any one of your top five themes or did you immediately connect (“claim”) with them?” The response is either, “Yes I connected” or “I did not agree with one of them.” This part of the conversation often elicits a few laughs and sharing of “AH-HA” moments or personal discoveries, both positive and not so positive. The third question is twofold, “Once you discovered your talents, how did you apply this knowledge to turn them into strengths and how did your company actually use the information over time to implement a strengths-based culture?” Here it comes…the blank stare! Most responses have been, “My Company just had us take it, and they didn’t really “do” anything with the information.” Now imagine the sound a balloon makes when you blow it up and then slowly release the air out at the mouth piece. (You know that sound that makes little kids laugh their heads off!) Sheer disappointment overcomes me and my energy slowly deflates like that balloon.  “The key...

RECLAIM FREEDOM: DEVELOP YOUR UNIQUE STRENGTHS

When we were conceived and growing in our mother’s womb, we were “free.” There were no expectations, no doubt, no fear…we had the freedom to just “be.” The day we were born, we were stripped of our freedom. From day one, we were exposed to societal expectations born out of our ancestors, as well as limiting beliefs, judgments, fear, worry, doubt, biases, and so much more. The focus growing up was on what we couldn’t do not what we could, on our weaknesses not our strengths, and on what we’re expected to “be” not what makes us unique. There are a few “humans” who overcame fear of rejection, went against the norm, and searched for their inner “truth.” They discovered their talents, turned those talents into strengths, and aimed for a higher purpose in life. These are our great leaders of the World who had a vision for what the future “could be:” George Washington, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Warren Buffet…just to name a few. It is time to reclaim your freedom. We were all born with talents and put on this earth to be unique. Sharpen your mind, develop your innate gifts, and break free of the limitations you have been swaddled in since birth. It is not about power, money, status or prestige. It is about you, your innate gifts, your uniqueness, and your own power to be the best of who you were born to be. Discover, accept, and strengthen your own inner self to re-gain freedom, happiness, and fulfillment. In return, be a servant leader and teach others to...
